Why this is worth knowing
Half of American towns have a dentist within five miles. Plenty do not, and the gap is not random: it follows population, not need. If your answer is a small number, the practical moves are to widen the search, ask about the first available appointment rather than the nearest address, and check whether a practice a little further out takes your insurance.
Distances are straight line from the middle of the ZIP code to the address each practice filed with the registry. A road trip is always longer than a straight line, and a registered address is not a promise of an open appointment.
