About Dent-OX, for people deciding whether to link to us

Dent-OX publishes a free directory of every dental practice in the United States, built from the federal NPI registry, alongside plain English guides for patients. There is no charge to search it, no account, and no advertising in the listings.

What the site is

  • 411,517 dental practices across 11,685 towns and 52 states and territories.
  • Listings come from the National Provider Identifier registry, a public record maintained by the US government, refreshed from each monthly release.
  • Patients search by town, ZIP code, neighborhood, specialty or distance, and send one request. Free, no sign up.
  • Sixty patient guides on costs, insurance, emergencies and treatment, written in plain English and marked clearly as general information rather than advice.
  • A practice can claim its listing free of charge to correct it and add its own detail.

How it pays for itself

Dent-OX is a marketing agency for dental practices. The directory is free for patients and free for practices to claim. We do not charge for placement, we do not rank practices by who pays, and no listing position is for sale. If that ever changes, this page will say so.

What we do not do

  • We do not copy reviews, ratings or photographs from other websites.
  • We do not publish email addresses harvested from practice websites.
  • We do not mark up ratings collected anywhere but here.
  • Listings that hold nothing but a name, an address and a phone number are kept out of search results, because a page like that helps nobody.

For librarians and health organizations

The patient guides and the directory are free to link to and free to use in a resource list. The guides most often used that way are going to the dentist without insurance, what treatment costs and dental emergencies. If your organization needs a version of the directory filtered to your state or county, write to us and we will make one.

For journalists

Our research page carries figures you can quote and check: 119.9 dentists per 100,000 people nationally, a median of 2.3 miles from the middle of an American town to the nearest practice, and 1,122 towns more than twenty miles from one. Per state figures are in the CSV.
